X has started testing XChat, which is a new messaging app, with a restricted number of users.
Complains of several users and independent verification proposed that the supplying is limited to beta testers who have a subscription to the platform’s premium service.
Although there is still no official confirmation, this indicates that public testing has finally started, and the functionality should soon be made available to the general public.
The platform’s current direct message (DM) system, which hasn’t altered much since Elon Musk bought the business, is intended to be replaced with XChat.
In keeping with Musk’s long-standing goal of integrating a secure communications network similar to Signal within X, the new system is anticipated to offer a great deal more capabilities.
Reverse engineer Nima Owji posted screenshots and information indicating that XChat will have group messaging, end-to-end encryption, a vanishing mode, file sharing, and the ability to flag messages as unread, even though X has not yet made its complete specs public.
Another degree of security will apparently be added by requiring users to set a four-digit passcode in order to access their communications.
In a move that probably indicates the switch to XChat, the company revealed on Thursday that it had halted development on its current encrypted direct messages.
Since 2023, Limited encryption features have been available to premium customers, but XChat might completely replace that system soon.
Elon Musk has constantly asserted his desire to make X a multifunctional app with built-in communications.
XChat’s public release with a safe, feature-rich communication tool integrated right into the platform would be an important milestone in realizing that goal.
