After numerous issues with technology which impacted the functionality of the application, the federal government created a new version of the Pakistan Citizen Portal for Android users.
The Ministry of Information Technology reports that the Google Play Store has received a new version of the Pakistan Citizen Portal for clearance. According to the ministry, only Android users have been impacted by the outage, and both the iOS version and the web portal are still operational.
Users have been complaining about frequent crashes, unsuccessful login attempts, and the inability to file complaints via the Pakistan Citizen Portal app for the last three days. One user complained that they couldn’t access government offices because “the app keeps crashing again and again.”
Since early this week, many Android users have been unable to access the site, which was formerly thought of as a tool for accountability and openness. The public asked the prime minister to pay attention to the ongoing problems and called for an immediate restoration.
According to the IT Ministry, the incident was caused by code-level issues in the Android app and an SSL certificate issue. The ministry explained that “These issues affected secure connections and app stability.”
The updated version resolves both issues and is currently pending Google approval. It should fix all existing problems and be ready for download after approval.
Residents are encouraged to use the web portal or the app for iOS in the interim, as both are up and running without any issues. Authorities have described the issue as transient and promised users that a complete service restoration will occur shortly.
The ministry reaffirmed:
“The problem is isolated to Android and will be resolved as soon as the Play Store approves the update.”
