After years of waiting by users who wanted a native tablet experience, WhatsApp has finally published its first iPad app. The announcement comes a day after a mysterious teaser was shared on the official X (previously Twitter) account of the site.
The latest version of the WhatsApp app for iPad is now available for direct download from the App Store. With this update, iPad users can now access WhatsApp using an app made especially for iPadOS, as opposed to using third-party solutions or workarounds like WhatsApp Web.
Almost all of WhatsApp’s essential functions are available on the iPad edition. Additionally, users can swap between the front and rear cameras, share their screens during chats, as well as have up to 32 participants in audio and video calls.
Users can also talk while they are working in other apps thanks to the app’s support for iPadOS multitasking features as Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over. The app’s smooth integration with add-ons like the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard improves iPad users’ usability even further.
Across iPhones, Macs, and other connected platforms, the new iPad app will sync media and conversations, according to WhatsApp. By keeping calls and messages end-to-end encrypted, Data privacy is maintained across the ecosystem
Additionally, the app has a feature called Chat Lock that lets users use passcodes or biometric authentication to secure particular discussions. By limiting access to specific chats, this feature promotes privacy on shared devices.
