“We are working to have the Twitter (X) switched off. We did not tweet the content in question.”
“The account of the Ministry of Economic Affairs on social media platform X was hacked late last night. Any post currently appearing on the account is not connected to the ministry.”
In reaction to growing cyberthreats following recent military tensions with India, Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team issued a red alert two days before to this incident.
The alert had issued a warning about efforts to spread misinformation and interfere with vital national networks by using phishing tactics, false narratives, and misleading communications.
According to the government, steps are being taken to safeguard the hacked account and look into the security incident.
