A man was found guilty of looking up bomb-making instructions on Facebook and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. He was also fined Rs. 50,000 by an anti-terrorism court in Lahore. Hanan Abdullah, who had been released on bond, was arrested immediately on the court grounds following the announcement of the verdict.
In 2022, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) first brought charges against Abdullah, claiming he had been searching Facebook for bomb-making and learning methods on how to create explosive devices. In his ruling today, ATC administrative judge Manzar Ali Gul directed Abdullah to be moved to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Hanan was accused by the prosecution of using Facebook to communicate with militants. He also had contacts with members of a terrorist group, they said. The prosecution asked the judge to sentence Hanan appropriately in light of the evidence that investigators had acquired.
