PTA Confirmed Free Wi-Fi at HEC-Recognized Universities

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started a six-month free Wi-Fi hotspot program at a few HEC-recognized universities, including women’s universities, in partnership with PTCL, Transworld, Nayatel, Cybernet, and Wateen.

Additionally, 200 locally built smartphones that were donated by mobile manufacturers will be given to female SIM card holders in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Pakistan via computerized ballot.

PTA reaffirmed its dedication to linking Pakistan and enabling the country through digital means.

With over 200 million mobile phone users, this development represents an important turning point in communications history of Pakistan. This comprises 15 million FTTH (Fiber to the Home) connections and more over 125 million broadband customers.

On June 20, 2025, all subscribers will be provided with 2oo on-net minutes and 2 GB of free data by PTA and cell phone operators in acknowledgement of this milestone. Users can activate the package by typing *2200#..

Additionally, in working together with PTCL, Ufone, as well as the Ministry of IT, a more extensive Digital Outreach Program has been put forward by PTA in order to setup free Wi-Fi connections and to provide computers for free at a number of universities in Balochistan and fused districts.
