Google Rolled Out Doppl, AI Virtual Outfits Try on App

Doppl, a new experimental mobile application from Google, lets users try on virtual outfits by creating AI-based images of how different ensembles would appear on their own bodies.

The app, which is accessible in the US on both the iOS and Android platforms, builds a digital image of the user using artificial intelligence.

Users can choose pictures or screenshots of ensembles, from items from thrift stores to social media fashion inspiration, to superimpose on their virtual self after uploading a full-body image.

Doppl offers AI-generated films that demonstrate how the selected virtual outfits might look in motion, giving a more accurate feeling of fit and flow than static try-ons. Additionally, users can share their favorite looks online or with friends, store them, and keep a personal try-on archive.

In a blog post, Google stated that while Doppl is the company’s first attempt to include the feature into a stand-alone platform, the app is an extension of its existing virtual try-on technology under Google Shopping.

In the past, Google’s virtual fashion tools let users see clothes on a range of model types, but not on personalized avatars made from their own images.

Recognizing the limitations of the new technology, the business said:

“As a Google Labs experiment, Doppl is in its early days, and it might not always get things right. “Fit, appearance, and clothing details may not always be accurate.”

Google seems to be targeting fashion-conscious people in a more exploratory, social area by removing Doppl from its purchasing tools. At the same time, the company is collecting useful data to improve future AI clothing products.

Google has not made any public announcement on Doppl’s plans to enter international markets.
