A new feature of Gmail that uses Gemini AI to automatically summarize all emails by default is about to be rolled out by Google. This feature will better the user navigation of lengthy or complicated threads.
In the earlier days, users might review an edited version of an email thread by tapping the option of “Summarize this email”. With the latest update, emails where Gemini thinks a summary would be useful—usually in lengthy conversations or chains with several replies—now automatically have summaries at the top of the message.
As new responses are received, Gemini automatically refreshes the summary to reflect the most current changes in the discussion. By doing this, users will have less time to waste scrolling through long threads.
Only emails written in English are supported by the automated summary feature at launch. Users can manually enable the feature from Gmail to summarize emails by tapping the “Summarize this email” chip at the top of the message, even if not all messages will automatically be summarized.
Only specific user groups will be able to participate in the rollout, which might take up to 15 days. These consist of users with Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium programs, as well as subscribers to Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium.
