The Senate Standing Committee on IT & Telecom was recently briefed on the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication’s lofty goal of $5.2 billion in IT exports for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to officials, if there are no internet outages and sufficient funding is maintained, Pakistan is anticipated to export $3.8 billion worth of IT by the conclusion of the current fiscal year.
The issues facing the IT sector, such as internet outages, inconsistent policies, and concerns about the ministry’s performance, were discussed at the committee meeting, which was chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan.
IT Ministry officials admitted that internet shutdowns had impacted the sector but said this year’s impact was not significant.
They stressed that future export growth is largely dependent on uninterrupted services and timely funding and will approximately reach up to $5.2 billion in IT exports.Â
