Cybernet and Nokia Redefine Pakistan’s Network Landscape

Cybernet, the top fiber broadband provider in Pakistan, has selected the Nokia state-of-the-art optical transport solution for its new long-haul Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) network, the company announced today.

Cybernet’s national backbone will be powered by this next-generation technology, which is intended to deliver 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) per wavelength. In the first phase, more than 25 cities will be linked, and more than 50 Tbps of long-haul bandwidth will be provided.

The main consumer broadband service of Cybernet, known as ‘StormFiber,’ will be backed by this deployment, as well as enterprise, carrier networks and data center interconnect.

In addition to providing carrier and transportation services to foreign telecom carriers, Cybernet also offers complete connectivity solutions to enterprise, corporate, and residential clients everywhere in Pakistan.

Cybernet is making use of 1830 GX platform of Nokia in merging with 1.2T ICE7 coherent optics to satisfy its flourishing data requirements and establish a terabit-scale infrastructure. The new network will allow for a high-speed, low-latency terrestrial backbone that runs the length of the nation and increase capacity along robust, varied routes.

The new backbone will facilitate cross-border transit services for Central Asian carriers and ISPs, in addition to linking towns and communities via Cybernet’s digital roads. All in all, this project would speed up Pakistan’s digital transformation.

Additionally, it will also boost regional connectivity by granting scalable, high-capacity services at prices that are competitive with those of other countries.

Maroof Ali Shahani, Chief Operating Officer of Cybernet, gave out a statement in which he said:

“By enhancing our network with cutting-edge technology, we’re able to keep pace with our customers’ rapidly evolving connectivity needs and deliver a superior end-user experience.

Nokia is a trusted technology leader with the expertise and innovation to support our modernization goals. The 1830 GX-based solution will form the foundation for high-capacity services connecting Pakistan—and the region—to the global digital economy.”

James Watt, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Optical Networks at Nokia also gave a statement:

“Deploying state-of-the-art optical solutions ensures networks are not just keeping pace with, but even staying ahead in the race to meet surging bandwidth demands.

As Cybernet prepares to modernize its network infrastructure, Nokia is proud to be helping transform Pakistan’s connectivity landscape with a 1.2T backbone, seamlessly interconnecting data centers, powering government networks, and delivering direct-to-home services.”
