Xiaomi Surpasses Apple

Xiaomi surpasses Apple and became the third biggest smartphone brand after Samsung and Huawei. According to reports published by IDC (International Data Corporation), Xiaomi surpasses Apple and takes the position of third-largest smartphone company globally on basis of shipments for the third quarter of 2020 with a market share of 13.1 and 46.5 million shipments.

Xiaomi has been making its efforts to hold a better place in the market by providing quality products with comparatively lower prices. These efforts now seem to be paid off as Xiaomi beats Apple.

According to IDC reports higher than expected trends have been seen on the purchase of smartphones globally. Samsung has shown an increase of 2-3% while Xiaomi has got a 40% increase in its purchase than last year and managed to attain a place among the top 3 smartphone brands in the world leaving Apple behind.

According to Nabila Popal, research director with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers,

“While some of the topline numbers may not seem pretty, we are seeing a lot of improvement in the smartphone market both in terms of supply chains and consumer demand”

COVID-19 has disturbed the economy globally and “work from home” causes higher demands for smartphones. Many countries including India which is the second-largest market has shown higher purchases in July and September. The reason for Apple losing its position is believed as an increase in demand for low-cost smartphones. Apple being high-cost product dint make its place among high in-demand smartphone and losses to Xiaomi.
