National Power Parks Management Company Limited (NPPMCL), Harbin Electric International Company Limited (HEI) and GE announced on Sunday that Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) Baloki Powerplant has been completed Successfully, following the tests, trials, and conclusion of all commisioning work which will generate 1,223 MW electricity.

CEO of NPPMCL Rashid Mahmood said on 29th July, “I am proud to announce that the Balloki project is now able to supply up to 1,223 megawatts (MW) of uninterrupted power to the national grid, the equivalent electricity needed to supply up to 2.5 million Pakistani homes. This is the second regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) power project developed by NPPMCL – the first being the Haveli Bahadur Shah (HBS) power plant, which entered full-fledged combined cycle commercial operations in May 2018.”

The contract of setting up a power plant was given to HEI by NPPMCL as it is an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project and will control the working schedules and installation functions. HEI additionally contracted with GE to install two of its Gas turbines, auxiliary equipment, and technical instruments to be used in power plant. For the completion of the project employees from more than 25 countries put their efforts together.

HEI Chief Operating Officer and General Director Li Chao said, “Together, we brought the world’s best to power Pakistan’s local project management with Chinese engineering expertise and power generation technologies that were developed by advanced research and development teams based in North America and Europe.”

Mahmood also explains, HBS and Balloki plants already provided 5.5 billion kilowatt hours of power to the National Grid while they are still working to improve commercial phase and will give low-cost electricity for up to 30 years.

Sarim Sheikh, President & CEO of GE Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan, “GE is committed to bringing advanced technologies to Pakistan and the successful start of commercial operations at Bhikki, Haveli Bahadur Shah and now Balloki, bringing a total of 3,600 MW to the national grid, is another example of our focus on working with our customers.”

The Baloki power plant is the second project of Regasified Liquefied developed by NPPMCL, first was the Haveli Bahadur Shah (HBS) Power Plant which had been operational since May 2018.
