Microsoft has confirmed its long-term commitment to the quickly growing digital and artificial intelligence (AI) landscape in India by declaring a $3 billion investment over the following two years. This step reflects choice of the Windows manufacturers to discontinue operations in Pakistan and leave the nation.
The cause of Microsoft’s closure in Pakistan is the financial instability of the country as well as the legal difficulties, which the company does not seem to be facing in India. The software company only had a small, understaffed liaison office in Pakistan.
Rehman claims that the final remaining Microsoft Pakistan staff members were formally notified of the closure, marking the conclusion of a journey that started in June 2000. He reflected on his personal part in starting and running the company’s operations in Pakistan when he wrote, “Just like that, an era ends.”
The founding head of Microsoft Pakistan, Jawwad Rehman, wrote on LinkedIn:

Microsoft plans to use its investment in India to help government agencies, developers, and enterprises by expanding its hyperscale cloud infrastructure, which includes building additional data centers and enhancing AI capabilities. It is anticipated that this development will hasten India’s digital transformation.
India is a “global leader in AI innovation,” according to CEO Satya Nadella, who also stated that the additional investment will “unlock opportunities across every sector of the economy.” In order to create AI-powered solutions and upskill millions of people in digital technologies, Microsoft has already teamed with a number of Indian ministries, companies, and educational institutions.
