Qualcomm to Purchase Alphawave Semi for $2.4 billion

It was declared by Qualcomm that it has reached an agreement to purchase Alphawave Semi, for an estimated $2.4 billion. Alphawave Semi is a UK-based semiconductor design company.

It is anticipated that the purchase of Alphawave Semi will help Qualcomm continue to develop its Oryon mobile CPUs and Hexagon NPUs while solidifying its position in the data center industry.

Alphawave was founded in 2017. It focuses on networking technologies, AI, bespoke silicon, and high-speed connection solutions.

Its portfolio comprises parts for solid-state storage and driverless cars, two industries that complement Qualcomm’s long-term growth plan in AI computing and communication infrastructure.

By 2027, the company is also anticipated to assist Qualcomm in gaining access to an addressable market valued at an estimated $39 billion.

Alphawave Semi’s president and CEO, Tony Pialis, referred to the agreement as a “significant milestone,” pointing out that the combined experience of the two businesses will improve product offerings, grow the clientele, and spur innovation in connectivity and artificial intelligence.

In the UK, the purchase is still pending regulatory assessment. Qualcomm anticipates the deal to close in the first quarter of 2026 if it is approved. As of 2023, Alphawave has more than 800 employees worldwide.
