Starlink Could Bridge the Digital Divide of Internet Access in Pakistan

During a high-level visit to SpaceX’s Los Angeles offices, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, highlighted how the company’s Starlink may transform internet access in Pakistan.

Sheikh who was accompanied by Consul General Asim Ali Khan and other consular representatives, investigated potential cooperation between Pakistan and the US aerospace company SpaceX.

The senior SpaceX executives who welcomed the group from Pakistan consisted of The Vice President of Starlink Global Business Operations and the Director of Global Business Development were among.

The talks highlighted on how Starlink’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology can increase broadband access in unattended and remote regions and help close Pakistan’s digital divide.

Ambassador Sheikh commended the fruitful collaboration with SpaceX and underlined Pakistan’s dedication to innovation-led growth. He said he hoped the discussion would result in tangible collaboration in digital infrastructure, commercial innovation, and space technology.

In Pakistan, Starlink has not yet been launched despite continuous negotiations. Recent reports, however, show improvement.

Last month, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, declared that Starlink’s licensing procedure was almost finished. By November 2025, the service should be up and running in Pakistan.

Shaza Fatima said during a briefing to National Assembly’s standing committee:

“Following the license issuance, we will commence the installation of the necessary equipment, and Starlink will be available in Pakistan from November.

A significant step toward the launch of satellite-based internet services in Pakistan was taken in March when the Pakistani government temporarily registered Starlink.

Pakistan stands to benefit significantly from Starlink’s fast, low-latency internet service as it is home to one of the major freelance populations around the world. If the launch of Starlink goes as planned, it is plausible to completely change digital accessibility in isolated areas.

It will increase the prospects of economy and advancing the government’s goal of a nation with access to the internet.
