Pakistan has reached over 200 million telecom subscribers.

With more than 200 million telecom subscribers overall, Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone in its digital transformation.

According to the sources Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will officially anounce this accomplishment at a national ceremony in honor of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

The public announcement is expected to take place simultaneously with an update of official numbers on the PTA’s platform, which is being organized by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The ceremony was originally planned for today, and dignitaries and important stakeholders received invites. However, due to the unavailability of Prime Minister, the event had to be postponed.

Under the Prime Minister’s support, the ceremony is currently anticipated to take place on May 16 or 17, 2025.

PTA is working with authorized Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Mobile Device Manufacturers (MDMs) to provide public-oriented activities as part of the festivities. On the day of the event, MNOs have promised its customers to offer free voice and internet bundles throughout the country.

To recognize the public’s contribution in gaining 200 million telecom subscribers, the program aims to promote wider access to digital content.

Additionally, the PTA has extended an invitation to mobile device manufacturers to donate 10 to 15 mid-range cellphones, which will be given away to event participants via a fortunate draw.

This gesture aims to close the connectivity gap in marginalized communities and represent the industry’s collaborative commitment to digital inclusion.
