A nationwide initiative to develop a national artificial intelligence (AI) project has been launched by the federal government. According to IT Ministry officials, the Planning Commission has officially authorized the project’s PC-1, and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has completed the necessary preparations for the AI initiative’s execution.
According to documents, the national AI project has been approved for a total of Rs. 534.6 million. The Ministry of IT intends to set up AI training facilities and hubs across Pakistan as part of the effort. As part of the larger plan to enhance AI infrastructure, seven National Incubation Centers in key cities will also house specialized AI centers.
20,000 students throughout the country are expected to receive AI training through this program. This program also intends to fund 150 AI-based enterprises. The Ministry has also set a target to train 500 specialists in advanced artificial intelligence. It is anticipated that these actions will have a major impact on the development of a trained AI workforce in the nation.
Two AI hubs will be set up, 3,000 training workshops will be held, as well as two national-level awareness sessions are expected to take place within the framework of the project for fiscal year 2025–2026. The above aspects are supposed to boost creativity and get the nation’s human capital ready for the age of digital change.
The program will be putting in place a flexible and fair AI management system which is in line with the ideas of responsible technology development, according to the official documents. In order to face upcoming technological challenges, the program is being implemented under the larger “Digital Pakistan” goal and focuses on improving AI capabilities, capacity building, and governance frameworks.
